    Botox

BOTOX®, Botulinum toxin type A, is a revolutionary cosmetic treatment, commonly used by cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Casey, to treat wrinkles around the forehead and eyes. Botox works through a process called neuromuscular blocking which relaxes specific facial muscles to alleviate wrinkles.

    Before Botox Treatment

We evaluate your medical history and then perform a complete examination to determine the most effective injection sites. Any issues and concerns you have can be discussed at this time.

    The Botox Cosmetic Procedure

Prior to your Botox treatment, Dr. Casey will discuss your aesthetic goals with you. Based on this discussion, he will determine the appropriate injection location as well as the effective dosage for the wrinkle at that site. Once the injection site has been carefully cleansed, Dr. Casey can begin your treatment with Botox. Botox cosmetic injections are performed without anesthesia. Only a very small sting is felt when the injections are made.

    More On Botox

Botulinum toxin type A is simply a muscle relaxer. Every time we move a facial muscle, skin moves. By definition, BOTOX® Cosmetic in Florida is used to paralyze an injected muscle temporarily in order to provide wrinkle reduction and/or sculpt the face by preventing muscular contraction. Used since the 70’s and now the number-one noninvasive aesthetic treatment, BOTOX® Cosmetic is the key for prevention of facial lines.

Botulinum toxin type A is by far the most popular cosmetic treatment in the United States. This purified protein, which comes from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, has been used for decades both medically and cosmetically and has been proven to be highly effective and safe. Two of the most popular products derived from botulinum toxin are BOTOX® and Dysport®, which are used to eliminate wrinkles and prevent future ones from forming.
Both BOTOX® and Dysport® are injectable wrinkle-smoothing treatments that function similarly on the neurological level. They work by acting as neuromuscular inhibitors, blocking signals from the brain to targeted muscles in the face responsible for wrinkle formation. Once the treatment is injected under the skin, it limits the chemical messenger known as acetylcholine from the nerve cells, which reduces the movement capability of an overactive muscle.
Once you can reduce the movement of overactive facial muscles, you can then prevent those muscles from causing folds in the skin. Wrinkles and fine lines around the face are mainly created by the over-articulation of these muscles.
The most common areas for facial wrinkles to form are typically around the forehead, eyes, and mouth. This natural aging process gets more pronounced with time as deeper and deeper lines become permanently etched into our skin.
The advantages that products like BOTOX® and Dysport® offer to the cosmetic world are vast. Rather than undergoing a more invasive surgical procedure like a brow lift or facelift, which requires general anesthesia and recovery time lasting a week or so, injectables need no recovery time, and the actual procedure can be completed in less than 15 minutes.
Not only is there virtually no healing required, but the injection process itself is met with very little pain, if any at all. Anesthesia is typically not needed, but a topical numbing agent can be applied beforehand if the patient wishes.
In addition, BOTOX® and Dysport® treatments are a fraction of the cost of surgery and offer the advantage of serving as a preventative measure to future wrinkles, thus keeping you looking younger longer.
The procedure process for BOTOX® and Dysport® is basically the same. The injections are so convenient that they can be completed in Dr. Casey’s office during your lunch break on a weekday. Some patients can experience minor headaches or bruising following the injections. However, headaches should be completely gone in a few hours.
There aren’t many differences between these two wrinkle smoothers, but there are some things worth noting. Although both BOTOX® and Dysport® derive from botulinum toxin type A, Dysport® has a reduced protein load, which means the body is less likely to attack the solution with antibodies. It also means BOTOX® is less likely to migrate from the injection site.
In addition, Dysport® has been known to activate bit faster, taking about one to two days, whereas BOTOX® generally requires two to three days to start showing results.
Whether you prefer BOTOX® or Dysport®, best results for this treatment will be achieved by returning for injections about every three months.

Frequently Asked Questions Aabout Botox Cosmetic

How does Botox work to treat wrinkles?

Lines and furrows gradually appear on the face because of muscle activity. When Botox is injected into those tiny muscles of the face, it blocks the chemical process that tells those muscles to move, allowing the wrinkles to flatten out.

Do the results of Botox look natural?

The results of Botox should be noticeable, yet subtle. Botox doesn’t radically change your appearance or interfere with your ability to show expression.

How long does it take for the results to appear?

After Botox treatment, the effects may take a few days to become evident – three days is about average.

Is treatment the same for everybody?

Botox treatments are modified to meet the needs of each patient, and may be more or less effective for certain patients. With an experienced cosmetic surgeon, you’ll be sure to get the dosage and injection site that best suits your individual needs.

Is Botox ever combined with other cosmetic procedures?

It is common for practitioners to combine other injectables with Botox. Dermal fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane are available at Casey Surgical Arts to provide soft tissue augmentation, in combination with Botox or alone.
