    BOTOX®/Dysport®/Xeomin®

Botulinum toxin type A is simply a muscle relaxer. Every time we move a facial muscle, skin moves. By definition, BOTOX® Cosmetic in Florida is used to paralyze an injected muscle temporarily in order to provide wrinkle reduction and/or sculpt the face by preventing muscular contraction. Used since the 70’s and now the number-one noninvasive aesthetic treatment, BOTOX® Cosmetic is the key for prevention of facial lines.

    Medically and Cosmetically Proven

BOTOX® is by far the most popular cosmetic treatment in the United States. This purified protein, which comes from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, has been used for decades both medically and cosmetically and has been proven to be highly effective and safe. Two of the most popular products derived from botulinum toxin are BOTOX® and Dysport®, which are used to eliminate wrinkles and prevent future ones from forming.

The Difference in BOTOX and Dysport

Both BOTOX® and Dysport® are injectable wrinkle-smoothing treatments that function similarly on the neurological level. They work by acting as neuromuscular inhibitors, blocking signals from the brain to targeted muscles in the face responsible for wrinkle formation. Once the treatment is injected under the skin, it limits the chemical messenger known as acetylcholine from the nerve cells, which reduces the movement capability of an overactive muscle.

Dysport is primarily used for correcting glabellar lines, the frown lines between your eyebrows. Dysport is a great option for those who have moderate to severe frown lines. Botox, on the other hand, can be used to treat many different types of wrinkles, including crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, and laugh lines.

Although both BOTOX® and Dysport® derive from botulinum toxin, Dysport® has a reduced protein load, which means the body is less likely to attack the solution with antibodies. It also means BOTOX® is less likely to migrate from the injection site.

In addition, Dysport® has been known to activate a bit faster, taking about one to two days, whereas BOTOX® generally requires two to three days to start showing results.

The most common areas for facial wrinkles to form are typically around the forehead, eyes, and mouth. This natural aging process gets more pronounced with time as deeper and deeper lines become permanently etched into our skin.

What Is The Recovery Time For Injectables?

The advantages that products like BOTOX® and Dysport® offer to the cosmetic world are vast. Rather than undergoing a more invasive surgical procedure like a brow lift or facelift, which requires general anesthesia and recovery time lasting a week or so, injectables need no recovery time, and the actual procedure can be completed in less than 15 minutes.

Not only is there virtually no healing required, but the injection process itself is met with very little discomfort, if any at all. Anesthesia is typically not needed, but a topical numbing agent can be applied beforehand if the patient wishes.

In addition, BOTOX® and Dysport® treatments are a fraction of the cost of surgery and offer the advantage of serving as a preventative measure to future wrinkles, thus keeping you looking younger longer.

The procedure process for BOTOX® and Dysport® are basically the same. The injections are so convenient that they can be completed in Dr. Casey’s office during your lunch break on a weekday. Some patients can experience minor headaches or bruising following the injections. However, headaches should be completely gone in a few hours.

When you meet with Dr. Casey, he will assess your needs carefully before guiding you toward a treatment that matches your desires and needs. Please provide your medical history and provide a list of prescription medications you have been taking.

Spread of Toxin Effects: In some cases, the effects of botulinum toxin products may affect areas of the body away from the injection site. Symptoms can happen hours to weeks after injection and may include swallowing and breathing problems, loss of strength and muscle weakness all over the body, double vision. You are at the highest risk if these problems are pre‐existing before injection.

For some patients, it may be more appropriate to combine BOTOX® with another skin care or rejuvenation treatment, such as injectable dermal fillers for a Liquid FaceLift. BOTOX® and Dysport® injections are done at all of our three offices in Bonita Springs / Naples, Marco Island, or Fort Myers.
